Thoughts on Autonomy

I tried to show how our lives are expendable and how we’re herded into places where we’re treated in undignified ways, and with such disdain for our bodies.
This is the way I feel about disabled folks being forced into living in institutional facilities and given no quality of life. I have to face that every day of my life. My Mom’s going into her 86th year. My fears are very real. I’m sure others feel this way too.
“They” take so much from us with their  disrespectful adherence to the medical and societal beliefs that they deem us expandable.
This is my way of saying, hey, look at us! Would you want to live this way?! With no supports in place, no security, and never ending despair coupled with isolation?!!
No they wouldn’t. Our governments and societal beliefs of what disability is must change.
We can all be responsible and focus on growth, innovation, and tolerance of others. Our lives depend on it. The population is aging and we need a great deal of support and nurturing acceptance in place.
Otherwise, they will continue to shape an unjust world.
