Recently I have been collaborating with another artist Charlotte. We have been using a large meter long wooden board holding it on our laps as we make each mark. When working together we move between mark making at the same time and passing the same tool to each other. We are responding to each other marks in an intuitive and automatic way, this process is without plan and is a way to communicate with each other.

Here is some close ups of my work created during the collaborative zoom call with everyone when I was at Rockets Studio the other day. We were asked to use colours that we don’t usually choose and one striking colour – I chose green for this.

I’ve chosen kaleidoscope for my leadership metaphor- online kaleidoscope is described as “life, identity, or complex systems as an ever-changing set of patterns formed by shifting individual pieces”  I will be working with animator Dave Packer in animation to explore my metaphor to more depth.

A multi coloured painting using lots of layers of different paint marks in different colours and varied sizes and textures. Multiple parallel thin white marks are concentrated right centre but also across the image like threads of fabric.

The canvas is shown next to other canvases of the same shape and size. They are all different but all use acrylic paint and the same colour palette.

Hi I’m William Thomas and I’m an abstract artist working in Brighton and Hove.

This painting was created in 2020 for the exhibition “Work in Progress” for the Phoenix Art Gallery in collaboration with Rockets Artists. I was so happy and excited to be part of the project and felt very proud of all the artists involved.

When I look back at the painting, I can see it was a big release of emotions for me.
