Aba’s Mermaid Piece

Yesterday I made a mermaid piece out of glass. The process was very exciting because it was the first time I did fused glass in about 8 years. I drew it out on paper and coloured it in with pencil crayons. It was like a rough draft. The drawing took me a few days to draw and colour and make it just right.

Then I met Andrea, who was very nice and helpful. She is a glass artist. She reminded me how to use the glass cutter tool and how to hold it. I cut out pieces to match the colours of my drawing. She helped me glue them onto the glass. I used glass “frits”, little pieces of broken glass, for the texture of the hair and other details.

Andrea is going to take it and put it in her kiln so it will all fuse together and become a really nice piece of art.

The experience was exciting and I really enjoyed it!

Self-Portrait as a Mermaid

This is a painting I did of myself as a mermaid. For my Sync project I am going to make another one as a glass mosaic.

Happy Rollers

Listen:

It’s me bowling as the captain of my team, the Happy Rollers. I’ve been doing that for nineteen years, and I love 5 pin bowling. Five pin bowling has always been my favourite sport. This is a picture from my book that I’m writing about my life.

Barack Obama Sculpture

Listen:

Hello there, This is Olivene Aba Garbrah. This is a Barack Obama sculpture that I was going to give to my late dad before he passed away. Barack Obama was a great president of the United States and my dad always admired him and I did too, so I did a Barack Obama sculpture as a tribute to him. This is a ceramic sculpture of Barack Obama wearing a tie and holding a flag. I included this clay sculpture because I’m currently writing a book about my life in Edmonton. This photo is in the book as well.
