Introduction for short film
To Hee Sun, November 30, 2025
The film To Hee Sun, November 30, 2025 explores the artist/filmmaker’s journey in grief after losing her mother in December 2024. She explores the experiencing of intense grief and loss, the passing of time, the changing of the seasons, Korean diasporic identity and trauma that upends our lives and stories. Nature carries wisdom, beauty, persistence, and resilience, and has an unchangeable quality and movement. It has the capacity to hold. We see it and feel it through sunsets, wintering, birds, water, and sky. The film is a glimmer of hope and expression of grief, a letter to her mother somewhere far away.
The film has three versions:
1) captions in English
2) artist’s audio description with captions
3) no access requirements
This is the artist’s first film to include access requirements. Caroline recommends watching each version for an unique experience. She especially enjoyed making the artist’s audio description version as it is its own film – the description added to the experience of making the film. She hopes to make a Korean captioned version and Korean audio described version in the future.
