Co-creating a mural

Posted by Abraham Koh • 3 weeks ago

nformation about Sa-Ranggong, a mural co-created by Abraham Koh and Hui Wen for the Youth Activity Centre at Serangoon Central Village in September 2026. The mural explores Serangoon’s history, nature and community through bougainvilleas, a heron and local landmarks.
Three photographs show Abraham and Hui Wen working together to transfer their mural design onto a large white wall using carbon paper. Abraham begins painting part of the outlined design green.
Two photographs show Abraham painting the Sa-Ranggong mural with wall paint. Large pink and blue bougainvillea forms spread across the wall, containing illustrations of Serangoon landmarks.
Details from the mural show Serangoon’s history and landmarks emerging from large purple and pink bougainvillea flowers, including former rubber and pineapple plantations, Serangoon Garden Circus and Alkaff Mosque.
Four mural details depict Serangoon MRT Station, a large heron representing the Serangoon bird, Chomp Chomp Food Centre and the colourful façade of Little India Arcade, surrounded by flowers and abstract forms.
Two photographs show Abraham and Hui Wen standing proudly in front of their completed Sa-Ranggong mural. The mural fills the wall with large pink, purple and blue flowers containing local landmarks, alongside a large painted heron.
Two photographs from the public launch of Sa-Ranggong show Abraham and Hui Wen standing in front of their completed mural and speaking to visitors. In one photograph, Abraham holds a microphone while explaining the mural to the group.
